Please resync and try again, 2.20.10-r2 is keyworded amd64 here.

yes i have done that. have not been able to update for some days now.
does it make a difference that i am using funtoo?

i ran 
#emerge gdm 
and it installed 
 Installing (1 of 1) gnome-base/gdm-2.20.9-r1

it means that something is depending on a higher version of gdm but gdm-2.20.10 is masked for you, be it by local package.mask or by something funtoo does but that's something for you to check with funtoo devs.
