Description Alex Walker 2002-05-22 14:54:53 UTC
When installing glib-2.0.1-r5, the following error is encountered, during
configuring:

[snip]
found xgettext program is not GNU xgettext; ignore it
configure: error:
*** You must have either have gettext support in your C library, or use the
*** GNU gettext library. (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/gettext.html

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 39, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)

!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/dev-libs/glib/glib-2.0.1-r5.ebuild .

And I do have gettext installed:

# emerge search gettext
[ Results for search key : gettext ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]

*  sys-devel/gettext
      Latest version Available: 0.11.1
      Latest version Installed: 0.11.1
[snip]

# xgettext --version
xgettext (GNU gettext) 0.11.1
[snip]

Problem in configure script?

I am using gcc-3.1, but I don't think that affects the script, but you may know
otherwise

really odd that, I have the same version

 qpkg -f `which xgettext`
sys-devel/gettext-0.11.1 *

Care to check??

Comment 2 Alex Walker 2002-05-22 16:44:34 UTC
qpkg -f `which xgettext`
sys-devel/gettext-0.11.1 *

Sorry!

But gettext is compiled with gcc-3.1, so maybe that's the issue... I wonder how
it checks.

Attached is the config.log, it appears I don't have libintl.h, and I assume that
is a part of gettext, but without it installed, I can't see if that's right.

This file comes from either gettext or from glibc.. and its present on my gcc
3.1 system, so this is an oddity.. care to debug and see your gettext works ok
or not? or glibc ....

Comment 5 Alex Walker 2002-05-22 17:20:50 UTC
The one thing I haven't trusted with a gcc-3.1 compile is glibc... could thta be
the problem. Lots broke when I did it last time, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Or are there other things I can try first.

On IRC? I am x3ja on OPN if you wanna do this real-time.

This is really odd..

did it solve with the recompile???

closing this with the new glib release
