Description Andrew 2009-10-22 08:53:36 UTC
I use gentoo linux ~x86.
If i start gimp it doesn't output anything in term, and exit:
% gimp
%

If i delete ~/.gimp-2.6 - problem doesn't disappear. It's exists on 2.6.7 and 9999 versions of GIMP (i don't install other, but i'm think on them too).
P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

Reproducible: Always

Does this problem persist with 2.6.11-r2?

In case I do not hear anything in the next weeks I may close this bug.

The problem still persists with 2.6.11-r5. If I can provide you with any additional information, please let me know.

A few things come to my mind:

(1) Please check the file size of the gimp binary.

      # ls -hl /usr/bin/gimp
      lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Sep  2 22:36 /usr/bin/gimp -> gimp-2.7

      # ls -hlL /usr/bin/gimp
      -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5.3M Sep 2 22:36 /usr/bin/gimp

(2) Please run "strace /usr/bin/gimp" (dev-util/strace) and share
    its output with us:

      # strace /usr/bin/gimp >& gimp-trace.txt

(3) Are there other programs that give similar behavior on your machine?
Comment 4 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2011-09-29 16:26:30 UTC
(4) Please run "lddtree /usr/bin/gimp" (app-misc/pax-utils) and share
    its output with us:

      # lddtree /usr/bin/gimp > gimp-lddtree.txt
Comment 5 Andy Dalton 2011-10-02 01:21:41 UTC
Sebastian,

I'm sorry to have troubled you. Unfortunately we had a power failure here and after the machine restarted, Gimp seems to be working. I'm not sure what the problem was, and now I can't collect the information you were interested in.

From my perspective you can close the bug. Again, sorry for the trouble.

No problem, glad to hear it's working. When there is need to re-open this bug, please go-ahead. Closing.
