Actually, gnome-extra/libgsf-1.14.16 started asking gnome-conf which means you need gnome to compile it. Nothing bad, except that libgsf is mandatory for app-text/libwpd (a library to read wordperfect documents). Again , in actual ebuild libwpd is mandatory for openoffice, while adding use flag (wordperfect?) and removing "--with-system-libwpd" should let us free to keep gnome-conf masked (which is still the only way to keep gnome out, for kde, fluxbox, xfce, and other DE/WM users). Thank you Reproducible: Always
libwpd 0.8.14 has the configure flag '--without-stream' to disable gsf streams. In the news file from libwpd[1] it states to have two alternative input streams. I checked openoffice which does not link to the libwpd stream library as far as I see. I recommend to fix libwpd use flag. ;) [1] http://libwpd.sourceforge.net/news.html (Friday, June 15th 2007: libwpd 0.8.10)

Haven't looked yet, but maybe you can answer that: what is the impact of disabling libgsf support ?
please get back to us.
@Hanno: See comment #3
Thanks
No idea about the deeper impact other than the news said. - No libgsf depend, so no gsf stream class(es). - Instead two alternative stream classes are available. Well, that said the news already. Another impact is stated in comment #0. That is all I care about as a packager. ;) I just have libwpd for openoffice that does not need the gsf streams. You may check these: http://gentoo-portage.com/app-text/libwpd/RDep#ptabs If you need more informations about libwpd and gsf you may ask 'Fridrich' on IRC freenode/#go-oo.
Added to 0.8.14-r1. Thanks for reporting.
