When I execute wvdial in the konsole, it shows messages like this: --> pppd: ط% The part after "pppd: " is random and varies between executions. See the attached file for how it may look. # pppd --version pppd version 2.4.4 $ wvdial --version WvDial 1.60 Copyright (c) 1997-2005 Net Integration Technologies, Inc. $ uname -a Linux tor 2.6.30-gentoo-r4 #1 PREEMPT Tue Aug 4 19:38:50 CEST 2009 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux $ /lib/libc.so.6 GNU C Library stable release version 2.9, by Roland McGrath et al. Try to re-emerge following packets (in that order): net-libs/wvstreams net-dialup/wvdial
(In reply to comment #2) > Try to re-emerge following packets (in that order): > net-libs/wvstreams > net-dialup/wvdial That did not help.
this heavily depends on your console settings, and, on locales - list available locales - give us locale and locale -a - attache emerge --info - does it happen the same way in console and xterm ? - it may also depend on you login program, the one loaded by inittab and asks your passwork, because, it's the one responsible for setting up the console properly (or not): a bad/good getty could do/prevent this . So, if using console, give us any getty line from inittab
