I have two Sun Blade 100 that could use some nice shinning Gentoo installs. However, when I try to boot them with the install cd 2008 or the install-sparc64-minimal-20090511.iso, it goes all the way till a shell (most times) and then the kernel blows in a soft lockup message. Where, it varies, but it is usually related to a soft_irq. It worked a couple times without the soft lockups, but since two days ago it has always locking up. The minimal installCD 2007.0 works, using the 2.6.20 kernel. I haven't tried the other, 2.6.17 kernel, as the former worked. Both machines present this, so I am inclined to think that it is not hardware. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Actual Results: One cannot use the most recent install CDs in a Sun Blade 100. Expected Results: It should boot and provide a shell without locking up. cat /proc/cpuinfo cpu : TI UltraSparc IIe (Hummingbird) fpu : UltraSparc IIe integrated FPU prom : OBP 4.0.45 2001/02/08 14:33 type : sun4u ncpus probed : 1 ncpus active : 1 D$ parity tl1 : 0 I$ parity tl1 : 0 Cpu0Bogo : 11.11 Cpu0ClkTck : 000000001debe980 MMU Type : Spitfire State: CPU0: online PROMLIB: Sun IEEE Boot Prom 'OBP 4.0.45 2001/02/08 14:33' PROMLIB: Root node compatible: Linux version 2.6.20-gentoo-r4 (root@bender) (gcc version 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1)) #1 SMP Fri Apr 20 06:24:27 UTC 2007 ARCH: SUN4U Ethernet address: <SUPPRESSED> PROM: Built device tree with 53560 bytes of memory. Oddly enough, it has stopped working. I went through Openboot's test-all, and I am getting several "Fast Data Access MMU Miss", which probably means something is very wrong with my hardware. Will close it for now until I can get the other blade tested too.
