Description nostradamus1935 2009-04-13 01:52:00 UTC
After upgrading to xorg-1.5.3-r5, I started "losing" some mouse clicks : my mouse works OK for some time (xorg gets a click event, this can be seen to xev) and then one or two clicks are lost (no events). This happens in all applications, qt or gtk.

Moreover, if I use "AutoAddDevices" "False" in xorg.conf so as to use the old drivers, my mouse doesn't work at all with the same options as before or with evdev or mouse as driver and microsoft, imps/2, etc. as protocol.

This forum entry describes a problem very similar, but with a trackpad : http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-917830.html .

I have x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-2.1.3 (it's ~amd64 but had the same problem with the previous version).

This is the output of "xinput list" :
"Virtual core keyboard" id=0 [XKeyboard]
        Num_keys is 248
        Min_keycode is 8
        Max_keycode is 255
"Virtual core pointer" id=1 [XPointer]
        Num_buttons is 32
        Num_axes is 2
        Mode is Relative
        Motion_buffer is 256
        Axis 0 :
                Min_value is 0
                Max_value is -1
                Resolution is 0
        Axis 1 :
                Min_value is 0
                Max_value is -1
                Resolution is 0
"AT Translated Set 2 keyboard" id=2 [XExtensionKeyboard]
        Num_keys is 248
        Min_keycode is 8
        Max_keycode is 255
"Microsoft Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical?" id=3 [XExtensionPointer]
        Num_buttons is 32
        Num_axes is 2
        Mode is Relative
        Motion_buffer is 256
        Axis 0 :
                Min_value is -1
                Max_value is -1
                Resolution is 1
        Axis 1 :
                Min_value is -1
                Max_value is -1
                Resolution is 1

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade to xorg-1.5.3-r5 and stay with the default config (hal autoconfiguration of devices with evdev)
2. Click here and there on things that give a visual feedback or with xev open.

Actual Results:
Some clicks are "lost".

Expected Results:
All clicks are processed.

Please post your `emerge --info', and attach the Xorg log file.

Well, I'm now unable to reproduce the bug, so we might just as well close it
unless you get another report. The fact that the old way of configuring the
mouse doesn't work anymore is of no great concern to me and is not actually the
object of this bug report anyways.

I'm quite sure I didn't change anything important, expect having used my system
with XDMCP (from another computer with Xorg 1.3 and the same mouse, to check
for any hardware related problems). It works as expected now... So, sorry if
this proves out to be a false alarm.

I'll post the logs you asked for, in case it serves.

emerge --info outputs :
