Description brent 2009-03-22 08:55:44 UTC
Yep, it's as odd as it sounds.

When I start a GNOME session from a fresh boot (via GDM called by /etc/init.d/xdm, etc.) and never open Thunderbird (ver. 2.0.0.21), gnome-screensaver (ver. 2.24.1-r1) activates just fine. However, the second I open a Thunderbird instance (and even if I close it and make sure no thunderbird processes exist), gnome-screensaver never kicks in automatically- I have to manually start it via the menus/tray icon. I have confirmed and the screensaver configuration doesn't change; the same options as before are selected per System > Preferences > Screensaver.

Firefox does not seem to cause this behaviour (I haven't tested any other mozilla apps).

USE flags I'm using:

[ebuild R ] mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird-2.0.0.21 USE="crypt gnome ipv6 ldap mozdom replytolist xinerama xprint -bindist -debug -moznopango" LINGUAS="-af -be -bg -ca -cs -da -de -el -en -en_GB -en_US -es -es_AR -es_ES -eu -fi -fr -ga -ga_IE -he -hu -it -ja -ko -lt -mk -nb -nb_NO -nl -nn -nn_NO -pa -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -pt_PT -ru -sk -sl -sv -sv_SE -tr -uk -zh -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] gnome-extra/gnome-screensaver-2.24.1-r1 USE="libnotify opengl pam -debug -doc" 0 kB

Let me know if you need any more info. I wish I could be of more help but to be honest, I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to even begin troubleshooting this.

did you try with an alternative screensaver ? (xscreensaver for example).
