after having emerged libxml2-2.7.3 vlc-0.9.8-r1 doesn't work anymore:

[ 8443.289215] vlc[21686]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f7cd345d551 sp 00007f7c997f7ea0 error 4 in libxml2.so.2.7.3[7f7cd3406000+1af000]

after having emerged libxml2-2.7.2-r2 vlc works fine again

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -1 =libxml2-2.7.3 vlc
2. start vlc load playlist or try to play files -> vlc segfaults / crashes
3. emerge -1 =libxml2-2.7.2* vlc
4. start vlc load playlist or try to play files -> works again / stable



Expected Results:  
vlc should work

there is not enough information on that archlinux bug to conclude that evolution-2.24.4 with libxml-2.7.3 would crash on gentoo too. I'm using this config day to day and haven't seen such segfaults yet.

Also this report misses basic informations, please provide emerge --info, emerge -pv libxml2 vlc and a backtrace of the problem, see [1] for that.

Please open this bug, I have the same problem with media-video/vlc-0.9.8a and dev-libs/libxml2-2.7.3

Downgrading to dev-libs/libxml2-2.7.2-r2 helped, but vlc also works fine with dev-libs/libxml2-2.7.3 after deleting ~/.config/vlc/
