Description George Cox 2008-12-13 13:53:12 UTC
I got this same build error with stable 1.34, so I unmasked 1.35 and have the same error. Searched and could not find any relevant bugs.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -av dev-libs/boost
2.
3.

Actual Results:

Looks like you ran out of memory - try without -pipe in your C[XX]FLAGS. If that doesn't work, reduce memory usage (or, ultimately, get more RAM).

Reducing memory usage could also be achieved by using fewer jobs:
MAKEOPTS="-j5"

Try with -j1 for a start.
Comment 4 George Cox 2008-12-14 23:25:43 UTC
Well, I indirectly figured this out myself, and -j2 worked. I noticed all compiles at once pegged to 20% cpu each and my swap file (which never gets used) was full. Any reason that this package uses so much compile resources when every other package so far hasn't?
Comment 5 Waldemar Müller 2009-02-10 01:50:38 UTC
works for me, too.
great thanks.
Comment 6 BlGene 2009-05-31 17:39:08 UTC
This happened to me on my amd64 machine, I have 1GiB of memory. Even with -pipe shouldn't the kernel be able to manage the memory?
