Description Andrew Frink 2008-12-13 04:58:02 UTC
When installing x11-base/xorg-x11-7.4 using --jobs=4 both x11-base/xorg-server-1.5 and x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 where trying to build at the same time. x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 failed complaining that x11-base/xorg-server-1.5 was not installed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have <x11-base/xorg-server-1.5 installed
2. Try to install x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 in parallel with xorg-server using the --jobs option

Actual Results:
x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 fails to build complaining "checking for XORG... configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server >= 1.2 xproto fontsproto were not met:"

Expected Results:
x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 builds cleanly and does not build in parallel with xorg-server-1.5

Running AMD64 with a fairly lengthy package.keywords file. Installing them serially will not trigger this bug as portage seems to get the order correct then.

xf86-video-nv-2.1.12 build log
Comment 2 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-02-20 15:37:26 UTC
Clearly not an x11 bug as the deps are correct.

@Zac, is this bug potentially a dupe of bug #250020 ?

Thanks

If xf86-video-nv were only building _after_ xorg-server then it would be a case of bug 250020, but they shouldn't build _simultaneously_ regardless of bug 250020.

I'm not sure why this would happen, unless you were using --nodeps. If you weren't using --nodeps, then it would be interesting to see emerge --pretend --debug output for the command that produced that behavior.
Comment 4 Andrew Frink 2009-02-21 02:13:44 UTC
It only happened when using the --jobs= option. I would post a --pretend --debug, but seeing as i filed this bug over 2 months ago my system has changed alot from that point. Also would "emerge --jobs=4 --pretend --debug world" produce a list showing which packages would be installed at the same time or not? It looks like it does not.

Is the rdep of xorg-server is correct if it is needed to build? This only happened when I used the --jobs option. This was triggered when going from xorg-server-1.4 to xorg-server-1.5. Portage tried to build both xorg-server and xf86-video-nv at the *same* time. It is an odd bug.

Please reopen with config.log attached if the problem still occurs with latest xorg-server / xf86-video-nv.
