Can you test with gentoo-sources-2.6.26?
This looks to be kernel-related and not related to our release media. I'd be suspect of the hardware on the machine, given that you're getting segmentation faults in the compiler. Were there a software bug in the compiler, we would have likely hit it compiling the countless pre-release versions or during any of our testing, which leads me to believe that it is more specific to your hardware or configuration.
Feel free to reopen if it's still a problem and you have had a chance to reproduce on 2.6.26.
