Description Chris 2003-06-06 20:51:29 UTC
Make fails with this msg:-
In file included from uniname.c:42
uninames.h:40382: internal compile error in output_constant, at varasm.c:4614

ERROR: sys-devel/gettext-0.11.5 failed.
function src_compile, line -257, exitcode 2
no error message

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
immediately reruning bootstrap.sh will reproduce a similar error in texinfo-4.3-
r1
echo-area.c:in function 'build_completions':
echo-area.c:1290: internal compiler error in verify_wide_reg, at flow.c:557

If I reboot and continue the installation from where bootstrap.sh left off it
may go onto the next step (binutils) it may exit again. As the problem is
intermitant I have no idea on how to isolate the problem. Essentially though I
have not been able to build gentoo linux yet as it will always fail somewhere
in bootstrap.sh

Expected Results:
a bootstapped system so I can continue the installation process.

the system i'm trying to install on is a AMD 400Mhz K6-3 with 128+64MB SDram

I'm using an old Basic install cd (It has stage1-ix86-1.1a.tbz2 on it) to get
the system up and then download the latest stage1-x86-1.4_rc4.tar.bz2 from
www.oregonstate.edu

After downloading the latest Live CD and trying to install from both a stage2 and a stage3 tarball the system was still failing to install.

Segmentation faults while extracting the stage3 tarball indicated the problem was hardware. After a little playing with the hard drive, power supply and RAM the fault was localised to an incompatibility with the 128MB+64MB combination (Fine by themselves, they didn't play well together).

My Gentoo system has now been built on AMD 400Mhz K6-3 with 128MB from a stage1 tarball.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
