I've installed on gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r2 of ati-drivers-8.42.3 and created a manual symbolic link of libGL.so.1. after 5-10 minutes of work, show on right-bottom of screen 2 colored rettangles that create "disturbe" of visualitation of screen, and same times the mouse pointer is showed with another rectangle. We can't fix closed-source drivers, sorry. You'll have to complain to ATI.
This is actually a dupe of the soname bug. cc yourself there if you want to track it.
