I often use SSH to connect to a system for which I have "DynamicForward 1080" configured, and then use this as a dynamic SOCKS proxy when web browsing among other things. Since upgrading to 4.7p1, I get tons and tons of "rcvd too much data X win Y" messages in the console that I have SSHed from as I browse around the Internet, and web pages randomly stop loading, sometimes immediately, sometimes after part of it has been loaded. X is some number that is not always the same, same for Y. Sometimes I get a few of these messages on one page. Sometimes the ssh window just scrolls and scrolls with them. Reverting to 4.6p1 fixed this issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use OpenSSH 4.7. 2. Open a SSH connection to a client with DynamicForward enabled to have it act as a SOCKS5 proxy. 3. Use the proxy, i.e. for browsing web pages. Actual Results: The SSH console gets those error messages, and connections through the proxy are randomly cut off. Expected Results: It should have kept connections alive through the proxy, like version 4.6 does.

I think this whould be an upstream Issue and is not directly gentoo-related...
I was getting this problem too, with openssh-5.0p1. Removing the hpn use flag solves the problem.
I could have sworn I closed this. Issue with the HPN patch since 4.7 or so, so it's upstream.
if you havent e-mailed the hpn guys, please do so now ...
FYI, there is a bug for this on the mindrot bugzilla, which is probably a better place to continue this (to keep vapier's mailbox cleaner :-) )
