The laptop is by the way an acer aspire 9410 (actually it's an aspire 9412) Hope i can fix this problem soon, it occurs since the upgrade from 2.6.21-r4 tot 2.6.22-r5 gentoo-sources kernel. Thanks in advance Ewoud
Please post the output of lspci It is possible you are experiencing the bug being tracked on kernel bugzilla as bug #8856.
Can you provide a complete dmesg? Can you please test with the latest vanilla kernel which is 2.6.22_rc5 as of this writing.

One thing of note. You're using both the old ide and the new ata drivers. It's possible that these conflict and CONFIG_ATA_PIIX also supports PATA drives on the Intel ICH controller. So please disable CONFIG_IDE in your .config and see if that helps at all.
Nope, i disabled CONFIG_IDE but the problem still persists. Though it occurs not every 2 minutes anymore, but around every 5 tot 7 minutes. Greetz, Ewoud
Let's see what happens with the vanilla kernel. I have found similar issues in upstream bugs so this might have to go upstream.
The kernel bug link that Jason gave definitely sounds like the same problem. It points to this earlier mammoth thread: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8316 That in turn points to this mammoth Ubuntu thread, which contains instructions on how to flash your CD/DVDW firmware to fix the problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/84603
So have you tried to flash your DVD firmware, like is advised in the Ubuntu thread you linked to?
Please reopen if you have tested with the latest development kernel and/or updated your firmware.
I didn't try to flash the firmware yet. But i found something else. When i disable the SCSI CDROM support the problem is solved. I now disabled it and it works fine, i also enabled it and then the problem occurs again. I hope this information is useful to you guys. Greetz Ewoud
Any chance to update your firmware and test with the latest development kernel?

If the problem still occurs after you've had a chance to upgrade the firmware and test on the latest development kernel then you can reopen this bug.
