Hey! I noticed that Portage doesn't (anymore?) install the .desktop files and icons which come with applications like xchat. I am not quiet sure but i think that was done in earlier versions of portage. Maybe you want to extend the ebuild system so that one can specify where to install icons and specification files. At least for major WM's like KDE and Gnome. mfg, ceed
A few devs (Azarah and others) and me talked about a unified KDE/gnome/others menu system/database/something in gentoo. Nothing real came out of it yet, but hopefully will in the near future. It's a definite goal.
