Hi, After an upgrade to 4.0.18.1-r1 (Bug-183886 stabilization request) login fails. Don't accept any user name (fails at 3-th attempt) Can't post emerge --info data as i'm away of the computer in question (later). The system is mostly stable with few ~x86. On two other systems have masked -r1, all is good so far. Might be an etc-update problem (mine) or some other error, but don't think so. (-cracklib nls -nousuid pam -selinux -skey). Will keep you informed. Thanks. Rumen Reproducible: Always
diff -Nau /usr/portage/sys-apps/shadow/files/login.pamd{,.1} <-- is the only change there. So yeah, pretty much a user error if you customized that file before. See the syslog for what's wrong.
Make also sure that there isn't an /etc/nologin file, or only root will be allowed to log in.
Hi, Thanks for this so quick response. Fixed it by uncommenting pam_console in /etc/pam.d/login (new file here) Written as a comment in the file - only problem might be that it's commented by default, so any user blindly updating will be locked out of his box :-) Closing the Bug. Regards. Rumen
