Mplayer consistently locks up whenever I compile in xv and try to play a video (screen blinks, does something weird with the refresh, then locks up completely). This occurs regardless of whether or not I compile custom-flags into mplayer. This is also occurring on a (relatively) newly compiled system (1 day old). The issue was most likely fixed in the latest version of their driver. From <http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.30.3.html>: Users with X Server X.org 7.1 can now play video using XV. The ATI AVIVO Video adaptor is now present. Don't mind the libstdc++ virtual ref and the ati-drivers ref. I am in the process of unmasking the latest version of the drivers and their extras to see if the issue is resolved.
Kernel developers don't support proprietary drivers; if you still have issues with latest ati-drivers version, then you should complain to ATI.
Drivers "work" with xv + latest ati-drivers. Just noting this so that someone could update portage (possibly) a little sooner to note this fix. Now if only someone could update ati-drivers-extra :). Closing bug because this "fix" works.
