Description Konstantinos Tzanis 2007-03-08 09:19:01 UTC
When closing multiple tabs fast with the middle click of the mouse, Konqueror 3.5.6 (on KDE 3.5.6) crashes.

As far as I can see, on a clean configuration, the middle-click function defaults to opening a new tab with whatever is in the paste buffer. Have you enabled any specific option to make it close tabs instead? (No matter how many times I click and how many tabs I open, it doesn't crash).

I've tested on two different ~x86 systems:

You are right, I didn't provide any other info. The middle click is on default concerning the paste buffer on me as well.

[ebuild R ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.6-r3 USE="acl alsa arts cups doc jpeg2k kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility spell ssl tiff zeroconf -avahi -debug -fam -kerberos -legacyssl -lua -openexr -utempter -xinerama" LINGUAS="-he" 0 kB

[ebuild R ] kde-base/konqueror-3.5.6 USE="java kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility -arts -debug -xinerama" 0 kB

Setting-->Configure Konqueror-->Web Behavior
Options Enabled are:
Show only marked bookmarks in bookmark toolbar
Enable completion of forms (20)
Open links in new tab instead of in new window
Hide the tab bar when only one tab is open
Advanced Options-->Everything except the last option
Change cursor over links
Middle click opens URL in selection
Automatically load images
Draw Frame around not completely loaded images
Allow automatic delayed reloading/redirecting
Underline links
Animations

When I cloce the tabs pressing the x button on the tabs, nothing happends. But when I close very fast the tabs with the middle click, it crashes.

I could reproduce the crash for the past 5 days (until this morning). Now It seems that it just doen't crash anymore. I will recompile the konqueror with debug so I can post a more detailed report. I can't explain it....
Comment 3 Konstantinos Tzanis 2007-03-09 08:44:25 UTC
Οκ I ve just reproduced it and I have the debug report

The backtrace is

Comment 4 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-01 20:30:46 UTC
How do you configure konqueror to be able to close tabs using the middle
button? I can't find any option for that. The configuration options you
mentioned don't help explaining that.
Comment 5 Konstantinos Tzanis 2007-05-02 06:31:42 UTC
I didn't configure konqueror to close tabs with the middle click. I thought it was a build-in feature of konqueror. The only relevant option I could find was in
Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Web Behavior -> Advanced Options -> Show close button instead of website icon

I have the above option enabled and in some setups when this option is not enabled, you cannot close the tabs with the middle button. But in my case even if I don't have this option enabled, I can still close the tabs with the middle button.

Here is the mouse section of my xorg:

Identifier "Mouse1"
       Driver "evdev"
       Option "Name" "Logitech USB Receiver"
       Option "Buttons" "12"
       Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
       Option "Resolution" "2000"
EndSection

xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 9 10 7 6 8"

However I found the following messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for the mouse

(II) LoadModule: "evdev"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module evdev

(EE) Failed to load module "evdev" (module does not exist, 0)

I recently upgraded to xorg 7.2 but the crashes continue

Comment 6 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-16 23:57:04 UTC
Do you have the evdev module?
Comment 7 Konstantinos Tzanis 2007-06-17 10:20:21 UTC
I had the evdev build-in to the kernel but I switched it to module but the messages on the /var/log/Xorg.0.log continue

I have the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3000 which includes the Logitech MX600 mouse. I now use the following configuration.
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Advanced_Mouse/Individual_Configurations#Logitech_MX600

However, I rsynced / to another pc (pentium3) with a different mouse (logitech m-uv55a) and the konqueror crashes as well. Both systems have been upgraded to kde-3.5.7

I recompiled konqueror-3.5.7 now with CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -ggdb"
and I got the following backtrace from konqueror
