When trying to install the x86 LiveCD on my wintel box it didn't id my NIC nor did it give me an error. When I went to configure the eth0 it let me then errored after the config. When I run ifconfig it only shows lo. My NIC is an SMC 1255TX. The vendor has a Linux driver for download. I just thought I would pass this info along in case someone wanted to add this NIC to the x86 LiveCD. The link to the driver is http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/library/1255TX_DRv10_Linux.zip. This driver is supported by the 2.2 and 2.4 kernel. I look forward to trying your distro. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot CD 2.At Boot prompt hit ENTER 3.run net-setup eth0 4.run ifconfig no eth0 Actual Results: system does not see any device on eth0. error message displays Expected Results: shown a device eth0 Also when the cd finished loading is says on the welcome screen to use "net- config eth0" to setup a static IP. The command errors out you have to use "net-setup eth0" and everything executes. As for the fix I am downloading the NIC driver and recompiling it. No biggy.
shouldnt be a problem to add this to next built livecd + a few gentoo kernels
