Looking at the timeline this is mostly likely version 3.0. Allan, could you please verify whether this still happens with version 4.0, or even better with version 4.1 from my personal overlay: graaff @ layman
mail-notification-4.1 is now in CVS, so please try test this version to see if the problem persists. If the problem is still there then please reopen the bug.
