The gentoo LiveCD experimental dated Jan 14th seems to work fine, however after
complete install, no kernel seems to be able to get this network card to work at all.

I tried with gentoo-sources 2.4.19-r7, 8, 9 and 10 and 2.4.20-r1 as well as
redhat-sources 2.4.18-r4 and linux-beta 2.5.60
No kernel whatsoever seem to be working with 3c556
The same problem is experienced as well with redhat 8.1b1 and mandrake 9.1b3 and
suse 8.1.

Everything else seems to be working with gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r1 but this is a
showstopper for me, obviously.

xfs-sources has a fixed driver for this chipset, well get it into
gentoo-sources
