you're using an old gcc: 3.3.6
If my gcc is too old, than emerge should upgrade it as a dependency.
(In reply to comment #4) > you're using an old gcc: 3.3.6 BTW, thanks for the useful info.
it already does go read the gcc upgrading guide
(In reply to comment #7) > it already does If I don't miss anything (2006.0/packages lists >=sys-devel/gcc-3.3.4-r1), this is not true, when you don't have gcc in world and don't do --deep updates. And it'll be even less true with Portage 2.1.2 not doing cross-slot updates anymore.
(In reply to comment #7) > it already does Sorry, it does not: -------------------------------------------------------------- # emerge --ask --verbose xnview These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild N ] x11-misc/xnview-1.70-r2 0 kB Total size of downloads: 0 kB Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] -------------------------------------------------------------- In other words when xnview gets emerged, gcc is not updated.
not my problem ... if you're going to be lame and try and use old/unsupported tools, have fun
Closing, no bug here.
