hmm, can you attach your /usr/lib/libesd.la and /usr/lib/libaudiofile.la here?
also, please make sure you emerge media-libs/audiofile-0.2.3-r1
actually, solution is: emerge esound unmerge emerge audiofile unmerge emerge esound audiofile and then go again on gnome-libs
Um. Why do i need to unmerge if its already merged? i was doing emerge vim, and it therefore was compiling all dendancies. so these are both already installed....why should i need to reinstall then install what i was originally trying to install? seems kinda pointless....?
because you probably do not have the new revisions installed. and, vim has gnome + X11 support now, that is enabled if you have X and gnome in your USE= flags, which is set by default, thats why vim attempts to build gnome-libs. The esound + audiofile has been updated to fix this libtool error, but your local files aren't updated to match those.
so i probably need to do an emerge --clean rsync? because i "got" my portage tree on monday morning....
Well, im reopening the bug. i unmerged audiofile, and esound. emerge --clean rsync. build audiofile & esound. go to emerge gnome-libs (not even vim this time) and i get the same error, the one i originally posted.
root@Darkmere gnome-libs # qpkg -f /usr/lib/libaudiofile.la media-libs/audiofile-0.2.3-r1 * root@Darkmere gnome-libs # qpkg -f /usr/lib/libesd.la media-sound/esound-0.2.24-r50 * please, also look in your libaudiofile.la (in /usr/lib ) does it refer to /var/tmp ???
audiofile-0.2.3-r1 esound-0.2.24-r2
what versions of audiofile and esound do you have installed?
Okay, well, i looked into the whole deal a little more. here are the .la files for audiofile and esound. why in the world is it saying things are in /var/tmp/...//usr/lib? i think that's the "bug"....can't we just fix libtool?so i know shadow is also going to be a problem, at least eventually. Is this really a libtool bug? or are the portage packages somehow weird?ive basically included all the libdir entries in the .la files. i've also included the .la files. and a list of packages currently installed......thanks for fixing this. personally, i don't get why, if libtool works, these portage packages are breaking? maybe im just weird.tia.some other tasty facts:/mnt/gentoo/usr/libroot on fedora # grep libdir *.lalibIDL.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libIIOP.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libImlib.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libORBit.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib'libORBitCosNaming.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib'libORBitutil.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libaudiofile.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/audiofile-0.2.3-r1/image//usr/lib'libbfd.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libdb-3.2.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libdb_cxx-3.2.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libesd.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/esound-0.2.24-r2/image//usr/lib'libesddsp.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/esound-0.2.24-r2/image//usr/lib'libgdbm.la:libdir='/usr/local/lib'libgdk.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libgdk_imlib.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libgif.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libglib.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libgmodule.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libgthread.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libgtk.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-bmp.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-gif.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-jpeg.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-png.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-ppm.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-ps.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-tiff.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libimlib-xpm.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libjpeg.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libltdl.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libm4.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libmisc.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/shadow-4.0.2-r1/image//usr/lib'libopcodes.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libpopt.la:libdir='/usr/lib'libshadow.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/shadow-4.0.2-r1/image//usr/lib'libungif.la:libdir='/usr/lib'with these installed:fedora portage # /usr/lib/portage/bin/pkglist sys-apps/baselayout-1.7.4-r2sys-apps/portage-1.8.11sys-apps/baselayout-1.7.6sys-apps/groff-1.17.2-r1sys-apps/bash-2.05a-r1sys-apps/bzip2-1.0.2-r1sys-apps/kbd-1.06-r1sys-apps/cpio-2.4.2-r4sys-apps/debianutils-1.16sys-apps/diffutils-2.7.7sys-apps/e2fsprogs-1.27sys-apps/ed-0.2-r3sys-apps/fbset-2.1sys-apps/file-3.37sys-apps/fileutils-4.1.8sys-apps/findutils-4.1.7-r1sys-apps/gawk-3.1.0-r1sys-apps/grep-2.5sys-apps/sed-3.02.80-r3sys-apps/grub-0.90-r7sys-apps/gzip-1.3.2sys-apps/hdparm-4.6-r1sys-apps/iptables-1.2.5-r1sys-apps/less-371-r1sys-apps/lsof-4.60-r1sys-apps/man-1.5i-r2sys-apps/man-pages-1.43-r1sys-apps/modutils-2.4.12sys-apps/net-tools-1.60-r3sys-apps/netkit-base-0.17-r5sys-apps/procps-2.0.7-r6sys-apps/psmisc-19-r3sys-apps/raidtools-0.90-r2sys-apps/reiserfs-utils-3.6.25-r7sys-apps/setserial-2.17-r2sys-apps/sh-utils-2.0.11-r4sys-apps/shadow-4.0.2-r1sys-apps/sharutils-4.2.1-r5sys-apps/tar-1.13.25-r1sys-apps/textutils-2.0.19-r1sys-apps/util-linux-2.11lsys-apps/which-2.13sys-apps/dcron-2.7-r8sys-apps/tcp-wrappers-7.6-r3sys-apps/devfsd-1.3.24sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.17-r5sys-libs/glibc-2.2.5-r2sys-libs/ncurses-5.2-r5sys-libs/readline-4.1-r4sys-libs/zlib-1.1.4sys-libs/db-1.85-r1sys-libs/db-3.2.3h-r4sys-libs/gdbm-1.8.0-r4sys-libs/slang-1.4.5-r2sys-libs/pwdb-0.61-r3sys-libs/cracklib-2.7-r3sys-libs/pam-0.75-r4sys-libs/lib-compat-1.0-r2sys-libs/gpm-1.20.0-r1sys-devel/binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3-r2sys-devel/gcc-2.95.3-r5sys-devel/gettext-0.11.1sys-devel/perl-5.6.1-r3sys-devel/libtool-1.4.1-r4sys-devel/m4-1.4psys-devel/autoconf-2.52dsys-devel/automake-1.5d-r1sys-devel/flex-2.5.4a-r4sys-devel/bc-1.06-r3sys-devel/bin86-0.15.5sys-devel/bison-1.34-r1sys-devel/ld.so-1.9.11-r2sys-devel/make-3.79.1-r3sys-devel/patch-2.5.4-r3dev-lang/python-2.2-r4app-shells/sash-3.4-r5app-editors/nano-1.0.8-r1net-ftp/ftp-0.17-r1net-misc/dhcpcd-1.3.20_p0-r1net-misc/netkit-telnetd-0.17-r1net-misc/rsync-2.5.4net-misc/wget-1.8.1-r1net-misc/openssh-3.1_p1-r1dev-libs/openssl-0.9.6cdev-libs/glib-1.2.10-r4dev-libs/popt-1.6.3x11-base/xfree-4.2.0-r8dev-util/intltool-0.18x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r7media-libs/libungif-4.1.0-r1media-libs/jpeg-6b-r2media-libs/tiff-3.5.7-r1media-libs/giflib-4.1.0-r3media-libs/libpng-1.0.12media-libs/imlib-1.9.13-r1media-libs/audiofile-0.2.3-r1media-sound/esound-0.2.24-r2gnome-base/ORBit-0.5.14-r1begin libesd.la:# libesd.la - What version of libtool do you have installed? I know those paths are not apperant in my system, I'm currently using sys-devel/libtool-1.4.1-r4 * the reason why I wondered about the versions of audiofile + esound is that we added libtoolize in the last few revisions, and that should supposedly fix this problem btw.. what happened to formatting of your last message?
same version of libtool as you, except pkglist doesn't list the * at the end. i used konquer lasttime because i couldn't get netscape to paste into the silly web form.....may that's a "bug" or something, i dont know, ill post something and see what happens.
this is a test post with knoquer 2.2.2 to see if it does funny things with wrapping.test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test
im going to have to attribute it to konquer.....where do i submit a bug for bugzilla? :)
bugs.kde.org is the obvious place?
qpkg outputs the star at the end to signifiy its actually installed. could you please try : emerge libtool esound and see if this changes anything? (check the libesd.la files to verify)
did that, even did an emerge --clean rsync, and still the same dealy-o. /var/tmp/...//usr/lib in libaudiofile.la, libesd.la, etc.
Ok Azarah, Can you please look at this as well? I'm totally stumped for ideas now, and this is starting to be irritating. ( Why do I have the feeling that Im missing something vital here?)

Ok, I know you have tried this before, but do the following: 1) actually boot into gentoo 2) totally unmerge all instances of ORBit, esound, audiofile 3) emerge rsync 4) then emerge libtool (should be libtool-1.4.1-r5 ) 5) emerge audiofile esound ORBit 6) now try the others that failed (gnome-libs) Let me know please, thanks.
what about the other ones that had /var/tmp? such as: libbfd.la, libmisc.la, libshadow.la?
Well, shadow is a difficult one .. it do not want to be libtoolized. I am still trying to fix that. for binutils .. check what version it want to install, and add: "libtoolize --copy --force" to the top of the src_compile() function in the ebuild, and remerge it.
okay, ill give this a try. it will take me a few days tho, as im going to be super busy for the next couple days. thanks, ill keep you posted.
gnome libs installed fine, looks like only ORBit still has issues. and yeah, libtoolize --copy --force is in the ebuilds for ORBit and for libol. interestingly, binutils worked out. grep "/var/tmp" *.la libORBit.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib' libORBitCosNaming.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib' libgnorba.la:dependency_libs=' /var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib/libORBitCosNaming.la /var/tmp/portage/ORBit-0.5.14-r1/image//usr/lib/libORBit.la /usr/lib/libIIOP.la /usr/lib/libORBitutil.la /usr/lib/libglib.la' libol.la:libdir='/var/tmp/portage/libol-0.2.23/image//usr/lib'

so should i upgrade to libtool-1.4.2-r1 or keep 1.4.1-r5
Hi Looks like I made a little mistake in that last libtool patch. Merge libtool-1.4.1-r6, and then ORBit,oaf and gnome-libs and let me know. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you are up to it, Ill stick till we get this resolved :)
good news, got it all compiled. orbit, libtool, oaf, gnome-libs, gnome. the only library still referencing /var/tmp/... is libol.la.....
Great! Yep, libol will still have it, as it is not libtoolized. Like I said, if you want to, you cant eiter keep this bug open, and add packages that have this problem, or add it in a new bug under my name.
ill close it up, its all kosher so far, whee! thanks again, its been fun. glad we could get it all worked out.
