I really don't see how it doesn't get created... How did you install hal that it didn't create the user/group?

Eh, that's nice but you need to give us some steps to reproduce the problem... :)
There's NO code in the ebuilds to remove the users... I have NO clue how that could happen. Without some steps to reproduce or show how you installed hal... cause the only way it would skip installing the group would be a hand installs and skipping a step.
