Description Linux Australia Mirror Project 2006-08-10 02:48:26 UTC
Daniel (dragonheart@gentoo.org) suggested we file a bug here to report a new Australian gentoo portage mirror here

Currently syncing twice a day from rsync1.au.gentoo.org we can easily sync from rsync1.us.gentoo.org if allowed to also.

rsync://mirror.linux.org.au thanks Steven.

Seems the usual question is "How many concurrent users do you plan to support?"
Comment 2 Daniel Black (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-25 16:19:29 UTC
From http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml
Q: Where should I sync my rsync mirror before I become an official Gentoo mirror?
For European-based rsync mirror: sync to rsync.de.gentoo.org
For US-based rsync mirror: sync to rsync.us.gentoo.org
For all others: sync to rsync.us.gentoo.org

Can you please update the source of your sync to rsync.us.gentoo.org and update the sync period to twice per hour as per the URL.

Thank you for setting up a full distfiles mirror (ftp://mirror.linux.org.au/gentoo/gentoo/).

The configuration of rsync://mirror.linux.org.au/gentoo-portage has changed. This should be pointing to the gentoo/rsync directory.

Please also update the source of your rsync to rsync.us.gentoo.org and the interval to twice hourly so that it can be included in the DNS round robin.

Hey guys,

Any updates? :)

I was told by Steven Hanley that there'd been an out-of-band conversation with Daniel Black, and that everything was either sorted out or in-hand.

For the sake of keeping things on the record, if this isn't the case, please let us know.

Thanks for checkup up on this Andrew.

Steven and I corrected a duplicate entry in rsyncd.conf fixing the rsync names. Steven said he'd get around to updating the resync interval (as below) that hasn't happened yet.

It seems that the update period for the directory served by rsync://mirror.linux.org.au/gentoo-portage is still doing a twice daily rather than a twice hourly update. [1]

The update period for the directory served by http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/gentoo/ should be 4 hourly [2].

Please ensure that a minimum of 15 and preferably 30 concurrent user connections are allowed [2] (I assume this applied to rsync too).

Once this occurs please make a "done" comment here and Shyam will check this before adding mirror.linux.org.au to the dns rotation and allowing direct access to the top level sync mirror.

Timeout, marking as NEEDINFO unless dragonheart has an update.
