When trying to update my "x86" system today, "emerge -avuDN world" failed. The reason is that the "simgear" library, which is required by the "FlightGear Simulator", depends on ~media-libs/openal-20050504, but this version has been removed in favour of the new 0.0.8 release of the ebuild. emerge -puDN simgear These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies - emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "~media-libs/openal-20050504". (dependency required by "dev-games/simgear-0.3.9" [ebuild]) Perhalps it is possible the just to update the dependency in simgear?
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! After manually unmerging ~media-libs/openal-20050504, the dependency in "simgear" magically vanished, und "simgear" suddenly was very happy with the 0.0.8 version. Sorry for reporting this bug too early; however "casual users" which do not know about manually fixing such conflicts may still be affected by it.
Well, you actually caught everything while I was still working on it. I've made simgear no longer accept the older openal, which will force a "downgrade" of openal. Sorry for the confusion.
OK then - thanks Chris. Closing the bug.
