Sorry, but I think dku5 is not supported on linux. 
Furthermore, judging after http://avr.auctionant.de/ark3116_linux_driver/, the ark3116 driver don't give access to control lines like DTR or RTS (see bad news in the above mentioned URL).

Closed as UPSTREAM.

Try gnokii

I have Nokia 3100 with DKU5 cable, recognized by ark3116 driver. gammu fails with that exactly message. gnokii works, though.

I have then tried gnokii to upload and download files, but without success.
