Please find attached ebuild and digest files for a library providing extremely fast (under certain conditions even real-time!) lossless compression and decompression. It is similar to zlib, however based on a different algorithm. This library would be ideal for somebody who would like to get some compression for his data without a speed sucrifice. Compression ration is lagging behind zlib, however not by a large margin (depends on type of file of course). In my tests (binary data with significant white noise) it would perform 1.5x compression (gzip would compress ~1.8) and it was ~6x faster that zlib (even faster for decompression)! please see: http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/lzo/ for more information. I suggest to put it in dev-libs/lzo. No dependencies. George
