Solar,

We spoke on efnet about this - I went ahead and asked Brian G. and we are
prepared to let the gentoo project use the following:

This machine is racked and ready to be re-installed with your choice of
operating system. (gentoo of course)

we are willing to donate 100mbit unmetered bandwidth - you can see our latency
at http://stats.ptptech.com/

On a side note, how much IP space do you guys need? (we will see if it's
reasonable).

The drives are currently setup as software raid - there are two IDE
drives.

If all goes well - and you guys utilize our server we will be willing to
provide a second server with the following specifications (this machine is
not built yet) 1U opteron dual core 170 w/ 2-4 gig ram W/ SATA drives
*unknown drive space*

Please let me know who I need to speak to and what steps i need to take
next.

This server would be located in the Ashburn VA Equinix facility

Sorry for the late reply. I've been afk at training and conferences the last two weeks. Thanks for the offer! I think we could definately use another machine in our infra. I was a little confused about one thing. Does this machine have 1.5G or 2G of ram? I'm not sure how much IP space we will need. We'll probably prefer reinstalling it per our specs just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again!

The machine has 1.5GB of ram

How should we go about getting gentoo installed - should we install it and provide root to someone? or boot to a gentoo cd - fireup sshd etc.

Also let me know what's needed on the IP space.

How much work would it be to get it up to 2G?

We generally have sponsors put the box up on a livecd, give us acces, we build, then coordinate a reboot. If that works for you, I'd prefer that, if it doesn't just let me know an alternate method.

For this specific box, or the future?

The machine maxes at 512 MB modules and there's 3 banks so 1.5GB is max

No - we can boot to livecd. On a side note we can provide remote reboot so we wont have to really 'coordinate' - in the future (not sure how long) serial console over ssh also.

for this specific box - and possibly if we donate another machine.

*sigh* yet another bug where this has slipped by somebody.
Daniel Alvarez: is this still available at all?
