The nvclock utility does not have any effect on the fan speed anymore although with lower versions it worked well. Furthermore the nvidia-settings utility results in a segfault when it is launched. Because of the terrible noise of the fan, both versions of nvidia kernel and the corresponding nvidia-glx are unusable. My guess is, that this bug is hardware related due to the fact that there was no confirmation from somebody else in the gentoo forum about this behaviour.

This hardware function seems to be broken while using the ebuilds mentioned above. -Martin
Please, report such issues upstream. We can't fix proprietary binary drivers.
