No-one really owns thirdpartymirrors, so QA gets the bug... The thirdpartymirrors file isn't really kept up to date. The gentoo list, for example, includes ftp.rez-gif.supelec.fr, which hasn't been a mirror for a while now, and half the gnu entries are duff. What we should probably do: * script check it now and again * find some way of getting what the gentoo entry should contain from infra on a semi regular basis

Somehow we need to keep the list in cvs synchronized with reality and there's nothing that portage itself can do about this.
