I run SMP-Kernel on AMD64 .. sometimes my X crash and normaly my whole system, specially with 3D and X issues

vm* looks like vmware stuff... could you try leaving out other possibly untrackable issuemaker?

I have no experience it this issue, the next time use emerge info for providing data about your system.

Im having a similar issue, but it only started once I installed ModularX and a emerged a newer version of ati-drivers.

I got a freezed system with black screen when starting X.
I figured out that everthings works when i compile my kernle with "CONFIG_NOHUGHMEM=y" instead of "CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y".
I run a x86 build on a AMD64 System (Asus A8r-MVP AMD64x2 4200+, 4GB RAM).

I am still testing over a period now .. am now running opensuse 10.2 with fglrx-drivers 8.40.* .. also an bios issue with my ST20G5 has been fixed .. i am still waiting for this crash to happen again .. so test-period is not over , should my system stay stable the next 7 days , then this issue is solved for me on a combination of things .. so many things changed Xgl , fglrx, kernel-patch ... but mostly i think it was a bios issue .. 

since using awdflash.exe with /cc/cd/cp/sn/py options , my complete bios-space was flashed with latest image ,, since this it seems stabe .. but still testing
