Description Stefano 2006-01-02 05:47:10 UTC
Looks like I'm hitting each and every bug into the framebuffer drivers these days.

Snippet from dmesg:
---
intelfb: Framebuffer driver for Intel(R) 830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G/915G chipset
s
intelfb: Version 0.9.2
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:02.0[A] -> Link [LNKA] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ
 11
intelfb: 00:02.0: Intel(R) 855GM, aperture size 128MB, stolen memory 32636kB
intelfb: Non-CRT device is enabled ( LVDS port ). Disabling mode switching.
intelfb: Video mode must be programmed at boot time.
---

But I booted with:
# cat /proc/cmdline
auto BOOT_IMAGE=linux ro root=307 video=intelfb:1024x768-32@75,accel,hwcursor,mtrr,nofixed

so video mode should be set.

Additionally:
# fbset
open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory

I should state that, with the same config (except for the boot params of course) and the vesafb device driver, almost everything works fine, except the console gets unusable after starting X (see bug 116791...)

emerge --info and kernel .config, please. Also, is this reproducible with latest vanilla-sources?

Didn't try, I tend not to use vanilla-sources because some patches of the gentoo-sources set resolve all manners of small problems I have with my hardware. If you really need a cross-check, I'll try.

Has intelfb ever worked for you on 2.6?

Never tried before, I used vesafb until the bug I described in bug 116791 made me look for a different framebuffer driver...
Comment 7 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-11 02:57:55 UTC
Please confirm that this bug still exists on the latest development kernel (currently 2.6.16-rc2) and if so, please attach full dmesg output from that kernel.
