Description Dylan 2005-09-23 20:02:30 UTC
compiling in XFCE causes xterminal to crash whenever xscreensaver starts.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start XFCE (or possibly other desktop enviornment that uses xscreensaver)
2.open up a terminal program
3.emerge something that will take some time (kdelibs for example) or just emerge
--sync && emerge -uD world (if you haven't done so in awhile)
4.go grab a cup of cofee and wait for xscreensaver to start
5.BAM! watch the xterminal die!
Actual Results:
see step 5

Expected Results:
started a nice little screensaver display and allow programs in the xterminal to
compile normally

Using Nvidia drivers, nvidia PCI card

Can you get a backtrace out of the term?
Comment 2 Dylan 2005-10-03 16:16:18 UTC
not sure how but w/ additional testing I've found this to be an XFCE problem,
xscreensaver works when compiling in fluxbox (slow but it works) seems if CPU is
stressed w/ multiple aplications XFCE will just crash.
Comment 3 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-03 18:16:05 UTC
Thanks, re-assigning.
Comment 4 Josh Nichols (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-11 09:51:44 UTC
Does this occur only when compiling stuff, or does it happen regardless of your doing if xscreensaver?

I ask because I've been noticing I went away from my laptop for a while, and came back to a login manager... and specifically, I wasn't compiling anything, or doing anything cpu intensive.
Comment 5 Sideris Michael 2006-12-12 15:18:57 UTC
Cannot reproduce at all. This actually seems to be quite old as well, so, you might considering closing this bug report. Maybe version specific?
Comment 6 Josh Nichols (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-27 18:36:09 UTC
Can't reproduce, marking WORKSFORME.
Comment 7 Pariksheet Nanda 2007-12-30 01:03:25 UTC
I agree with Dylan, this is an XFCE problem.
When I go click on "Quit" in the XFCE menu, instead of prompting me to log-off, restart, shutdown, etc... xsession just crashes with this error:

-- snip --- snip --- snip ---
waiting for X server to shut down xscreensaver: 05:30:05: SIGHUP received: restarting...
xscreensaver: 05:30:05: running as pariksheet/pariksheet (1000/1000)

xfce-mcs-manager: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"

after 1666946 requests (1666942 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

xfce4-panel: Fatal IO error 4 (Interrupted system call) on X server :0.0.
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
xscreensaver: Can't open display: :0
xscreensaver: running as pariksheet/pariksheet (1000/1000)

xscreensaver: Errors at startup are usually authorization problems.
But you're not logging in as root (good!) so something
else must be wrong. Did you read the manual and the FAQ?

              http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/man.html

I just done a full system update, so all are packages up-to-date.
