I've put "x11-misc/xcompmgr *" in /etc/portage/package.keywords and emerged it.
 The version is 1.1 and compiled successfully.  Can it be marked "~alpha"?

I can confirm that xcompmgr 1.1.3 compiles cleanly, however when I try and actually use it with Xorg 6.8.2 and the composite extension enabled, the desktop background is corrupted - although the shadows do work.

After updating to modular Xorg, the same situation still applies.  My Desktop background is corrupted and made grey, dragging windows is slow even with DRI enabled and the GUI eventually freezes.
