alright and now I have to install gtk 2.8 ! Ok I understand I'll test the newer
gnome!!

I think the remedy was worse than the bad : it's equivalent than hrdmasking it.

Before the "fix" evince-0.3.0 was stable and 0.3.{1,2} were unstable. Now,
evince 0.4.0 cannot install because gtk-2.8 is hardmasked.

Please put evince-0.3.* back in portage (at least the stable 0.3.0 version),
maybe with a corrected ebuild.
Comment 4 Daniel Gryniewicz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-16 07:26:47 UTC
Evince has always been unstable and hard masked. If you unmasked it locally,
then you're accepting the responsibility of unmasking any of it's depencencies.
You would not be able to use any future version of evince without upgrading to
gnome 2.12 (which is generally a dep of evince), and I'm not particularly
interested in supporting old versions of a package that's moving so quickly.

You are free to get the older versions out of http://viewcvs.gentoo.org and put
them in an overlay locally, as is always the case with removed package versions.
