Redhat produced a patched to remove the ugly hatch pattern that X shows when it starts in 2002. This altered the pattern to be plain black in the X server source. Gentoo has "v2" of this patch applies which seems to add -br to the default X command in startx and it does the same job if you use startx. However, GDM doesn't use startx and the pattern still appears in all its ugly ugly ugly uglyness. Adding -br to the default server in gdm.conf fixes this. On http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2682311.html it is implied that this is also the case with KDM, though I havn't checked because I don't use it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Start gdm: `gdm` Observe. We try to stick to upstream as much as possible. After discussion on IRC, we have decided against this. If you feel strongly for this, you could try speaking with upstream about possibly including this there.
