There is no button to set FireFox as default browser in `General' section of Edit/Preferences, between `Languages' and `Connect'. This is for `firefox-bin-1.0.6-r2', on amd64 platform. Similarly, you need to set a default e-mail client for FireFox (in Thunderbird), otherwise an e-mail link in a Webpage would be a dead link. Obviously, Mozilla doesn't have such a problem.

Please read upstream documentation. It tells you how to setup thunderbird to open firefox when clicking a link.
