Hi, you're all probably doing a great job I've heard some great things about you. But I can't tell as I am an ADSL user and I need a PPTP-client get internet running through my ADSL-modem. This way I can't get to install Gentoo using the sources (which is the whole idea about Gentoo, isn't it?). Is it possible to get a PPTP-client (like PPTP-command) into the installation? I'm sure there are other people with the same problem (they might have a fix though :p). I really can't think of another option... Best regards, Sam Besselink, Haarlem, Netherlands
Are you after PPTP (Point-to-Point-Tunnelling Protocol) or are you after PPPoE or PPPoA (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet/ATM)? If you are after PPPoE to connect to your ISP so you can install Gentoo onto a completely empty machine then try the suggestions here: http://lists.gentoo.org/pipermail/gentoo-user/2002-January/002711.html HTH Troy.
Most ADSL providers in the Netherlands use PPTP, not PPoE. See bug #1900 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1900
OK, this is being added to the CD I'm building today (20 Dec 2002.) Will post a URI when I have this on it.
OK, http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd; download a 20021221 or later CD and it will have pptpclient on it :) Closing this bug; thanks for the report.
