Description Arc Riley 2005-08-15 19:44:52 UTC
I hope this is the right place to submit these.

With these two packages installed (there are many more verse plugins, I just
made the GIMP one as an initial demonstration) you can open GIMP from two
different machines and edit the same file at the same time, seeing the other's
changes in realtime.

With additional plugins (ebuilds to come) you can edit Blender skins in
realtime, or use Blender to edit a mesh in a game *AS IT'S RUNNING* :-)

I'm uploading the files next. I don't know the correct format to do so, so
I'm just uploading them straight-up.

These are media-gfx/verse and media-gfx/verse-gimp (there will soon be more).

I'd be willing to maintain these ebuilds, as well as the Soya ebuilds (which
I'm working on now) and some of the Xiph projects I work on.

/usr/portage/dev-python/pyverse/pyverse-20050701.ebuild

I'm adding dev-python/pyverse as part of this.	Incredibly simple ebuild, but
well tested.

/usr/portage/media-gfx/verse/files/verse.initd

Verse server was not written to GNU coding standards. It does not reply to
--help -h or any other flags, apparently, and doesn't daemonize on it's own.

So after some feedback, I hacked the init script to reflect this bad behavior.

ping?

> ping?

Please, *don't* ping on new ebuild bugs; and especially not after one month.
It's plain annoying and just generates bugspam, nor will it get the ebuild to
portage faster. I have already tried to explain this in Bug 103177, comment #8.

pong!
Comment 11 Tom Wijsman (TomWij) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-14 19:20:46 UTC
http://www.blender.org/modules/verse --> Not Found
http://verse.blender.org/ --> http://www.blender.org
http://users.telenet.be/blendix/verse/ --> The python bindings, plugins and scripts here are no longer maintained.

It seems the current ebuilds are outdated; but it might be the case that Verse got integrated into Blender, and I also see some GitHub projects that do some Verse related things. So, please reopen or file a new bug with up-to-date material as we can't do anything with the current files in this bug and the change of state of Verse.

Of course this bug is bitrotten, it sat untouched here for almost 8 years.
