Description Arnaud Limbourg 2005-08-14 03:26:34 UTC
In the Locally Attached Printer (USB) section it shows USB-printer
support as being compiled-in. After fighting with getting printing to work for
a while I decided to try the module approach, which yielded much better results.

It might be worth adding a note to the tutorial saying that if the compiled-in
approach fails the module one should be tried. The symptom is the absence of
/dev/usb/lp0 (and /dev/usb for that matter).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Chose UB-Printer as compiled in
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Printer is not recongnized, /dev/usb does not exist

Expected Results:
Printer recognized, appearing under /dev/usb/lp0

Umm, my USB printer doesn't appear under either, but CUPS picks it up and my
printing works fine...

Weird, CUPS only picked it up after I compiled and loaded the module. In CUPS
though the printer does not show up after USB Printer #1 but it works.

I'm putting this as NEEDINFO for now..if it works, nothing to fix.

Reopen in case you have more info on this.
