I'm trying to update world. This package is among those that need updating. The build always fails in the src_install function. The output from src_install seems rather repetitive (I'll submit as an attachment). It seems that the same documentation appears on the screen, pausing at a command, and cycling through many times before the install actually fails. The following are the error messages immediately preceeding the failure: mkdir -p -- . /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/do c/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html /bin/install -c -m 644 ./api.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/api.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./api.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./backend-spec.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/backend-spec.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./backend-spec.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./docbook2man.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/docbook2man.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./docbook2man.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./docbook2texi.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/docbook2texi.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./docbook2texi.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./fdl.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/fdl.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./fdl.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./frontend-spec.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/frontend-spec.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./frontend-spec.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./helpers.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/helpers.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./helpers.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./index.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/index.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./index.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./introduction.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/introduction.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./introduction.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./intro-jw.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/intro-jw.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./intro-jw.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./intro-sgmldiff.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/intro-sgmldiff.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./intro-sgmldiff.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./jw.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/jw.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./jw.html': No such file or directory /bin/install -c -m 644 ./sgmldiff.html /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/sgmldiff.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./sgmldiff.html': No such file or directory make[3]: *** [install-htmlDATA] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/work/docbook-utils-0.6.14/doc/HTML' make[2]: *** [install-am] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/work/docbook-utils-0.6.14/doc/HTML' make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/work/docbook-utils-0.6.14/doc' make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 !!! Ok. You can forget that output. My scrollback buffer is 32000 lines, and it's not long enough. Suffice it to say that during src_install, it appears to be executing the exact same command in a loop. The data that scrolls by appears to be, perhaps, a license agreement. It scrolls by a good twenty times.
Looks like a duplicate of bug 98680. Try emerge --sync and re-emerge docbook-sgml-utils

(In reply to comment #2) > Looks like a duplicate of bug 98680. Try emerge --sync and re-emerge > docbook-sgml-utils I've synced and re-merged many times. Just tried again. It's not resolved. I'm not sure it's a duplicate. I've walked through the other bug without success.
The output you've included doesn't show the actual error. Please attach the complete output from the emerge process. Thanks.
I get the same error when I build with Gentoo Portage build system. /var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/image//usr/share/doc/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.14/html/sgmldiff.html /bin/install: cannot stat `./sgmldiff.html': No such file or directory Doing a manual "make" goes through, ok. Doing make install (not ebuild <efile> install) stops with same error, missing file. I guess the source or patches are buggy. I remove the half-installed files and go back to version 0.6.12 . /Donald Axel - Denmark d-axel.dk
