Description Richard Garand 2002-11-04 20:36:56 UTC
When I use the 3123 nVidia drivers, I get regular X freezes (every 1-2 weeks,
depending on how much I use OpenGL). I have never experienced this problem
with the 2960 drivers (it may be possible to solve this problem by tweaking the kernel,
but it seems clear that the 2960 drivers are more reliable). I recommend masking the
3123 drivers, although I don't know if anyone needs them.

it is possible that this is an interaction between these drivers and the rmap vm
system. can you try out using xfs-sources-2.4.19-r2 rather than gentoo-sources
(assuming you were using gentoo-sources) if not, please tell me your kernel version.
Comment 2 Richard Garand 2002-11-11 20:25:30 UTC
I'm currently using gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r9 and I also saw the problem with -r7.

as info: 4191 is now in portage tree

blah whozit scroboo... I now ONLY get this problem if I play UT2k3, how about
you? (using the 4191 drivers)
Comment 5 Richard Garand 2002-12-13 15:36:21 UTC
I'm upgrading a lot of packages right now, so I'll have to see how well the new
drivers work later. I've been playing warcraft 3 (in WineX) a lot and haven't noticed
the problem there with 2960-r1 - I usually had it in UT2k3 and the game that I'm
developping.
Comment 6 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-09 15:14:38 UTC
let me know the status of this, just clearing out bugs.
Comment 7 Richard Garand 2003-01-09 15:39:46 UTC
I don't know if this problem still exists with the 4xxx drives, because I no longer play
unreal tournament 2003 and I'm not currently working on my project that was
causing freezes. On the other hand, I haven't had any freezes after lots of warcraft
3.
