as mailinglists do not scale well i put it here ;) somehow my crond (i use sys-apps/dcron) is not working correctly. i added it to the default runlevel and /usr/sbin/crond is running in fact, but it does not seem to schedule/execute neither scripts specified in /etc/crontab nor in /etc/cron.daily etc. however, i do not know the reason yet. perhaps there is sth wrong with /usr/sbin/run-crons or with the binary itself. now i remerged dcron, so far with no effect.
Just for comment sake, here is an email (summarized) from the gentoo-user mailing list: "To make it work I had to add a space at each end of line in my crontab."
I posted a one liner patch on gentoo-dev list and mailled it to the author of dcron.
Ddded the patch from Matt Dillon on the mailing list to fix this. Thanks to everybody who reported/analyzed this bug.
