Description Michael R. Lawrence 2005-07-15 04:49:03 UTC
mutiple mirriors for sync commmand like the mirriiors causes rsync to
host a b c  b=you  , trys to bridge mirrior them.

anhow for sake of make.conf beutification

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. add a firewall
2. use rsync hosts like mirror hosts and
3.it will force emerge-webrsync in order to do it.

Actual Results:
disk space error ; yeah i'd say so being rsync is trying to mirrior 200 gigs
to me then upload it a-2 B B2 c , err I just wanted a secoundary portage sync
host ,hhhhhh

SYNC=" URL-A URL-B"  I had more... grrrr
TEMP FIX SYNC=" URL-A" ## URL-B"

use more than one RSYNC host and you get an out'a disk space warning.

Expected Results:
had to defualt to hurting gentoo.orgs band width

SUGESTIONS IN ADD't INFO

A: a future MAKE.conf URL style fix for beutification
B: RFC for a PEER 2 PEER or share with gentoo build pkgs
(I wouldnt mind BOINC-GENTOO LIKE SETI@HOME lending my pc IDLE to crunching
gentoo pkgs and well if I emerge them as well that way some other poor sole
dosent speend the same hours wating on the compiles)

change make.conf
sligtyly a sugestion for sync too addres SYNC mirriors and gentoo MIRRIORS

GENTOO_MIRRORS =                SPEED= (1-10)(being kind 5)  RATING=primary
GENTOO_MIRRORS_1 = ;;;;;;;; etc. _N value  RATING=Local-lan; FASTHOST etc
LOCAL-WAN come to mind but hmmm??? Purdue.edu etc IN ; IL MI OH KY a few hosts
hear if not busy are peeerd with COMCAST.net max Xfer of peek of 4.4 gigs per
sec will cheek gentoo first for version info then move to a fast host
if portage tolerence is within say 72 hours ...... or by preerence.
but
GENTOO_MIRRORS= URL
GENTOO_MIRRORS_1=URL
GENTOO_MIRRORS_2=URL
GENTOO_MIRRORS_3=URL
ETC
SYNC = this is easy to
SYNC_1= see
SYNC_2= corect edit and fix
SYNC_3= not to mention alllot cleaner

RSYNC wont BUG THE F%^$ out.

 anyhow this would be alot cleaner and portage would be able or users would be
able to define a local lan host to sync if a cluster sync host a and other lan
hosts get updateds
MAINLY IT's JUST EASIER TO EDIT AND MAINTAIN and also it would allow specific
hosts to be protected AND NOT CLOBBERD example below

MMM Dang I need to sync ; rats ; all busy internet rush hour.....
Mirrorselect adding hosts 1-10 Mirrors protected adding 10 mirriors rsync-
mirrors and gentoo
add svn and cvs yes/no yes.

ADDITIONAL FUTRE SUGESTIONS
---------------------------------------------------------
also to be kind it would be nice to upload to gentoo with accounts or be able
to be able to use P2P
/%PORTAGEROOT%/package > uploads digest of pkg compiled with features and pkg
or a meta link like for a p2p torent etc.
this would allow if good conection PKGS of lare types to be shared securely

emerge --upgrade x11
thier is a bin pkg via gentoo-torent maching pkg compile arguments.
compile time aprox 3 hours 45 min
Fetch over p2p time 20 minuets max
try to emerge bindist from gentoo-pears (if fails will compile src)
ok fetiching src done > standby < geting bindist
bindist fetch good verifying md5 ok>

Comment 1 Michael R. Lawrence 2005-07-15 05:26:31 UTC
Emerge --sync

disk full error ( 80 gig with 4.5 gigs in 4 swaps and one ROOT partition one
3.2 gig FAT32 since I have NTFS on first drive (swap files to and fro Windoze
XP RESIERFS with only 3% used) yeah righ 2 80/120 gig drives.. soon migrating
to 120 gig or better

I found SYNC host is like HIGHLANDER THIER CAN ONLY BE ONE /// chop
had to comment em out.
I PREFER MORE HOSTS for mirrors it's often faster.
PITY for gentoo's bandwidth for I like a good tree
I'd rather portage
get version info > bye ; get local-WAN data from a near by gentoo host In town
or peed with my providers local conection ; and continue. and be done with the
sync quicker. by local-WAN I mean hosts geograpicly close and in PEERing
radius that makes them FAST either in town or just a few hundered miles but on
backbone. with ISP too.

RFC change MAKE.conf SLIGHLY that way if gentoo's busy it will hop down
SYNC=GENTOO (_0 IMPLIED BY DEFAULT SYNC_0/SYNC=)
SYNC_1=MY-PREFERD-UBER-FAST-LOCAL UNIVERSITY MIRROR (if cloged up EALSE)
SYNC_2 CERN.gov the'yve got OC-63's  groing out thier ears better yet peer'd
in Chicago and since i'm in basic regional wan I get insanse speeds from em
often NIST.gov in IL not bad neither 5.5 gigs per sec over xmass break :-) on
ISO's and over a 1.1 DOCSIS I wonder what my new 2.0 DOCSIS cable modem might
get..... yes protect my fav victums from mirror select

also a protect specifc mirrors feature
you just may have a bad luck day and need to mirrorselect cause gentoo's down
for maintence or outage issues etc and your useual victums are working realy
slow or down too by a snapped cable or tornado hurican earthquake etc

just would be nice to make the mirrors in the make files more clean anyhow.

nano make.conf
mirrors=SJJJJJJOLJjuhlkjiwebiujebvilrfbikjbervkjrbvkjrbvlhjrbljrvfbhrbhjr
brelhjbrhj brljhnb erlhjf brhjbrhjbrlrhljfrlfhb rhjr brkrjvfnorol
this is which I see in my make for gentoo mirrors wich is long cause i added a
few local-WAN universitys and gov sites wich are unoffical mirrors for pkgs
this gets a bit ugly to see and fix.
VS
Mirror=
Mirrior_1=
this just easier to see read change edit etc
and less prone to long term PEBKAC ISSUE's # 10 (PROGRAMER has had no sleep in
days ) and newbie issues , and just would allow for cleaner code.

Huh? Eh? Closing as INVALID until you are able to produce a meaningful bug.
