In reference to: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/staffing-needs/ Someone left this comment on my weblog: "I think theres a problem here though - I dont know if people really understand the fact that they can contribute documentation. According to the Gentoo staffing needs page, theres no opening spots for any doc team." Could we please clarify the "project description" statement, as the page certainly isn't a list of the *only* areas where we'd accept new contributors, but is only a reflection of where developers are needed the most. It should in no way imply that if an area isn't listed there then new developers would not be considered.
How about: "This page does not list the only areas where contributions are welcome, but is only a reflection of where developers are needed the most. If you are interested in helping out with another aspect you should contact the relevant team."
Sounds good, but I'd suggest rewording the sentence there already, especially to avoid the word "vacancies". This page aims to list the areas in which Gentoo actively seeks to expand development efforts. Positions are open to both existing Gentoo developers and also those wishing to become a Gentoo developer. The priorities shown are sorted from highest to lowest. This page does not list the only areas where contributions are welcome, but is only a reflection of where developers are needed the most. If you are interested in helping out in another area, then do not hesitate to contact the relevant development group anyway. (I changed your last sentence)
As the person who commented on Daniel's weblog, I thought it appropriate to point out that I believe that his suggestion (comment #2) would definitely make the Staffing Needs page clearer. He also pointed me to the GDP Roadmap page, which I think is somewhat relevant to the staffing needs page. I probably would not have found it if I was not linked there. (For reference: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gdp/roadmap.xml ). Perhaps this could be linked to the staffing needs page, with a statement like this:

I don't know if this is the best solution. Maybe it would be better to have a page titled "Contributing to Gentoo", that details how to help out the Gentoo project, from donations, to coding, to writing documentation, and links to the appropriate pages. Just thought I'd throw this out there. Either way, the suggested change makes sense to me.
Fixed in CVS, should update to the web-nodes within a few hours, thanks!
