machines.LINUX was automatically created in /usr/share/mpich The workaround is easy: just copy or set a symbolic link from /usr/share/mpich/machines.LINUX to /usr/share/machines.LINUX Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. /usr/bin/mpirun -np 2 /usr/bin/gcc Actual Results: Cannot read /usr/share/machines.LINUX. Looked for files with extension LINUX in directory /usr/share . Expected Results: read /usr/share/mpich/machines.LINUX Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.5-20050130, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, Jun 10 2005, 18:34:42)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: [Not Present] sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-Wno-error -Wall -Wshadow -W -O3 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-Wno-error -Wall -Wshadow -W -O3 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -Woverloaded-virtual" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo" LINGUAS="fr en" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.nl.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X Xaw3d a52 aac acpi aim alsa apm arts audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo bzlib cdparanoia cdr crypt cups curl divx4linux doc dv dvd dvdr dvdread eds emacs emboss encode esd examples fam fbcon ffmpeg fftw flac foomaticdb fortran ftp gb gd gdbm gif glut gnome gnustep gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 guile imagemagick imlib ipv6 jack java javascript jpeg kde ladcca lcms libg++ libwww mad mikmod mime mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mpi msn nas ncurses nis nls nptl ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oscar oss pam pdflib perl png posix python qt quicktime readline samba scanner sdl sndfile sockets sox speex spell sse ssl svg symlink sysvipc tcltk tcpd tetex threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb v4l vorbis wmf wxwindows xine xinerama xml xml2 xmms xpm xv xvid zlib linguas_fr linguas_en userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY

(In reply to comment #1) > Remember to search before filing bugs. > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 43358 *** I did. But because (I guess) bug 43358 is marked as solved it did not show up on my screen when I searched for "mpich".
