Description:   Opened: 2005-05-21 23:43 0000
[08:37:27 alexander@server:/usr/portage/dev-libs/gmime] $ time sudo emerge -vat
mail-client/balsa

These are the packages that I would merge, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] mail-client/balsa-2.2.6 +crypt -debug -doc +gtkhtml -kerberos
-ldap +pcre +sqlite +ssl +threads 0 kB
[ebuild N ] dev-db/sqlite-3.2.1-r3 -doc -nothreadsafe 0 kB
[...]

Note the version of sqlite that's going to be installed: 3.2.1-r3.

After sqlite is installed and during the "configure" run of balsa, I get this
error:

checking whether to use LDAP... no
checking whether to use SQLite... yes
checking for
        sqlite >= 2.8
... Package sqlite was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps
you should add the directory containing `sqlite.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH
environment variable No package 'sqlite' found
configure: error: Library requirements (
        sqlite >= 2.8
) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

------- Comment #1 From John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) 2005-05-22 18:01:15 0000 -------
bug confirmed.

the .pc was renamed to sqlite3.pc, and the header file to sqlite3.h. Therefore,
3 files that use these resources must be patched to make this work. ( and i
created a patch for configure.in and 2 source files )

However, the API changed in this new version of sqlite ( v3 ). Simply renaming
the functions in the .c file doesn't work because the arguments to the functions
have changed. I started to fix this issue, but decided its really an upstream
thing at this point, especially since its not fixed in their lastest development
version.

Heres a link to the gnome bug:
http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305152

Thanks for the report!

------- Comment #2 From Alexander Skwar 2005-05-23 01:11:49 0000 -------
I agree that it seems to be an upstream bug.

Until upstream fixes this, shouldn't the "sqlite" USE flag be removed or
modified, so that users get an error message when they try to use this flag?

------- Comment #3 From John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) 2005-05-23 18:34:37 0000 -------
great turnaround upstream, less than a day and its fixed in cvs. I will create
a patch and backport it to us. should be fixed by tommorrow night at the latest.

------- Comment #4 From John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) 2005-05-24 09:04:31 0000 -------
in cvs as -r2. please test and open a new bug if you encounter any problems. (
unless you still cannot compile it )
